18m MV Maureen
The vessel is a full displacement, single screw vessel of all timber construction in Scottish MV style and with raked stem and transom stern and with a long, straight keel. A bold sheerline is carried in accordance with the tradition of the type.
The deckworks comprise of a forward wheelhouse with deckhouse aft and of steel construction. The deck is of Iroko timber with payed seams, and deep bulwarks are carried with a clear afterdeck.
Accommodation is provided for eight in four cabins below deck. Propulsion is by a heavy duty turbo charged diesel engine coupled to a marine reverse gearbox incorporating reduction gearing. A single rudder is carried with hydraulic steering.
Originally designed and constructed for environmental research work, the vessel as built was fitted with trawl winch, hydraulic crane and gallows on the afterdeck, this equipment has now been moved and additional lead ballast has been installed aft to compensate for the same.
